Jeff Antoniuk is the founder and operator of Jazz Band Masterclass in the DC/VA/MD area. Since it’s inception almost 15 years ago, Jazz Band Masterclass has served over 450 adult students, and over 1,000 students including its sister summer jazz camp, Maryland Summer Jazz. A beloved educator and inspirational presence in the mid-Atlantic jazz scene, Jeff has created numerous spaces for jazz students of all ages and from all walks of life to embrace jazz and improvisation, and to add value and deeper meaning to their lives.
Jeff has led well over 2,500 ensemble classes through Jazz Band Masterclass over the years, all jazz small groups of ﬁve to seven adult players. His business now operates 16 JBM groups, all of which meet twice a month. The average stay of a student in his business is four + years, and many students have been with Jeff for well over twelve years. Jazz Band Masterclass creates an incredibly stable experience for his students, and an incredibly stable and long term steam of income for Jeff and his business.
In 2017, Jeff’s founded his Digging Deeper Jazz You Tube channel, which produces a new video every week on the topic of jazz education for adults and semi-pros. The channel has reached almost a millions jazz enthusiasts around the world, and typically logs over 12,000 view per week. His newest project is Jazz Wire, launched in the fall of 2018. Jazz Wire is a subscription-based web experience for adult amateurs and semi-pros around the world. It aims to connect these previously unconnected musicians, offering them curated content, strong direction for their playing and practice, and much needed interaction with each other.
Jeff Antoniuk has also served as adjunct faculty at both Towson University (MD) and Luther College (IA). A Master Teaching artist through Washington Performing Arts, Jeff spent 20 years working as the lead Jazz Artist-In-Residence in DC Public Schools, under the auspices of the Capital Jazz Project and Jazz At Lincoln Center. He has also acted as an adjudicator, guest conductor, judge and soloist for various regional and state band competitions in both the USA and Canada.
Jeff worked for four years as an artist-in-residence for the National Endowment for the Arts, and is a past recipient of the coveted Canada Council “B” Grant. He has lent his expertise in professional development training sessions for organizations as varied as DC Public Schools, The Kennedy Center for the Arts, and the White House. Jeff has guest lectured widely on the topic of Entrepreneurship In Music, including at the University of North Texas, Notre Dame University, The University of Texas, the International Saxophone Symposium, and at the Jazz Educators Network National Convention.
As a performer and composer, Jeff Antoniuk has been writing, playing and recording for over 30 years. Both of his recordings with The Jazz Update band were “Jazz Top 50” airplay CD’s, and his recording with The MARS 4-tet was released on the Grammy winning Summit Records label. He has performed across the United States and in his native Canada, and has amassed both critical and public acclaim for his writing and his playing.
